Fair Housing Poster Contest

Each year, during the month of April, the Community Housing Resource Board of Anderson, SC sponsors a poster contest in recognition of Fair Housing Month. The board invites fourth through twelfth grade students in all schools within Anderson County to participate in the contest. Eligibility for participation in the contest will be extended to fourth through twelfth grade students enrolled in all schools within Anderson County. In addition, participants enrolled in programs sponsored by the Housing Authority of Anderson, Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club and the Jim Rice Center.

The Community Housing Resource Board of Anderson's Chairperson sends a letter to the Art Instructors of the above stated organizations and schools. The letter contains the following information: purpose of the contest, eligibility for participation in the contest, the theme and instructions for designing the artwork, poster size specifications, contest deadline, awards for participants and winners of the contest. Correspondence mailed also includes the name of a contact person for additional information regarding the contest. In the event that persons submit a poster(s) after the deadline, the judges consider submission ineligible for judging. Judges of the contest include a minimum of one (1) representative from the following sectors: arts community, public sector and private sector. Judges award prizes in three (3) categories.

Community Housing Resource Board of Anderson SC members recognize all participants and winners of the contest during its annual Fair Housing Reception. The board invites students, parents and family members of students to the reception. If given permission, the board may consider using artwork submitted in the contest for promotional items regarding fair housing. The board does not award monetary or non-monetary compensation to persons for the promotion of the artwork. Final approval to promote a student's artwork will require written consent from the parent(s) or legal guardian(s). The student(s), and parents/guardians also sign an agreement that they were informed and understand that the student does not receive compensation for the promotion of his/her artwork.
